Well, I am writing a report on Quebec for school. So I’d like to know some distinctions between Quebecois people and other Canadians. It might be something about habits, customs, temper or anything else. Thank you.
There are a lot of things about Quebec which makes it unique. Here are a few to get you started:
Language – It is the largest collection of French-speaking citizens in Canada. It is, in fact, the reason that Canada is officially bilingual. All government websites, services, and documents, are done in both English and French. Even the labels on our Hostess Twinkies are bilingual.
Architecture – The older parts of the province have unique architecture (similar to that in the French Quarter of New Orleans) not seen anywhere else in Canada. The most famous example is in the Old City portion of Quebec City. Quebec also has the oldest military forts in North America.
Food – Quebec has its own cuisine. One of its most famous inventions – poutine (French fries with gravy and melting cheese curds on top) is famous across Canada, but is becoming popular in the United States as well.
Politics – Quebec is the only province in Canada to have its own official political party (Bloc Quebecois, pronounced ‘block kay-beck-quah).
Religion – Quebec is, by an large, a Catholic province. There are more Catholics in Quebec than in the rest of Canada combined.
